How to Hard Boil an Egg In The Microwave (Yes it’s Fricking Possible!)

Hi. Yes, two posts in one week, but they’re short. I made a hard boiled egg while in a bit of a rush before starting my school work this morning; it tasted just like a normal hard boiled egg. In the microwave. (I thought I had 3 zooms and if I wanted normal school hours I’d have 2.5-3 hours to work but nope. Only two). This is a great recipe and you can also make it while simultaneously brushing your hair, teeth, or putting on your shoes (if you work or go to school in person. If you don’t live here… the US is screwed up right now. Hopefully that changes. I won’t get into politics… but Biden we’re counting on you).

I credit UFO Bob on YouTube because I needed to make sure the egg wouldn’t break or explode. Which it will if you don’t do this correctly. I knew you needed salt, but I didn’t know what for. Thanks! 🙂

Time: 10-12 Minutes

Ingredients/Tools:

  • 1 Egg (Or you can do multiple at once)
  • A Mug
  • 1-2 Tsp Salt (I used iodized)
  • Water
  • Microwave
  • Table salt for dipping your egg into (optional)

Steps:

  1. Place egg carefully in mug
  2. Put water in the mug until egg is fully submerged
  3. Put 1-2 teaspoons of salt into the mug
  4. Place in microwave and at a default/100% watts, microwave for 5 minutes (give or take).
  5. Take out and put egg immediately in ice water for 5-7 minutes, or until egg is cool. – For the fastest results in a few minutes I let it sit in ice water for 1 minute, then put the egg and water in the freezer so it stayed at an even temperature and the water would stay cool as the warm egg warmed the water. You need this step so the egg stops cooking and it cools and generally tastes better.
  6. Enjoy! (But take the shell off first)
