Expectations Vs. Reality (In the Beginning) Plus Some Helpful Tips!

From 8/20/20 I think

Hi guys! I am sorry for not posting after two weeks. I originally was going to take a one week break to brainstorm and gain back motivation. I ended up adding a few days because I made a post which will be in two parts featuring one of my best friends! (Check out her YouTube channel: Creatii Studios). I will most likely post the first part next week because I’ve pretty much finished editing and I’ll just watch it over and finish and post so this week instead I’m just going to be doing kind of a crappy post as a joke about everything I expected to happen, in comparison to what actually did happen! Haha, I’m dead now, I had really high expectations, but I hope this helps anyone starting a blog get a good idea of what might happen!

Formatting

Expectation: I will be honest I thought “I’ll just look it up” or “Everything has labels, I’ll work it out, easy,” which is clearly not true.

Reality: I’m still figuring it out and honestly it took so long to just make the dropdowns. There are a lot of things all over the internet you can find and videos on YouTube. I use WordPress to make my blog and it works really well for me but I still managed to struggle with formatting and literally everything that exists.

Uploading Frequently

Expectation: *Weekly Uploads*

Reality: (A general idea)

Week 1: *Post*
Week 2: *Post*
Week 3: *Slight struggle to post on time*
Week 4: *Posts 2 days late*
Week 5: *Posts 4 days late*
Week 6: *Break to brainstorm*
Week 7: …
Week 8: *Posts 5 days late*
You get the idea.

Coming Up With Ideas

Expectation:
Every Week: *Insert a lightbulb lit above head*

Reality:
Week 1-4: *Uses ideas brainstormed from like before I even knew what my tagline is*
Week 5+: *Has no ideas and struggles to post*

Motivation

Expectation:

Day One of the Week:
“Oh frick yeah I am going to get SO much done!”
30-60 Minutes later
*Has list of ideas and introduction paragraph with post mapped out and bullet points with summaries and some quick details*

Reality:

Day One of the Week:
“Okay, I’ve got this”
5-10 Minutes Later
*Knows maybe what I want to do but is self-doubting*
10 Minutes Later:
*Has one sentence*
“You know what, I have no motivation right now, I’ll take a quick break”

Me: “I’ll just watch this real quick”
1 Hour Later: *Listening to Broadway songs on repeat and watching Netflix”
11:00 PM:
Me: “Oh frick… I need to post in 2 days… NOW I have motivation?”

Hi! I’m sorry about how bad this post is but I needed something I’m planning on posting something better next post. To avoid being like me I recommend coming up with a posting schedule and sticking to it and changing it if needed. Plan things out and always have a backup post saved in Google Docs or a Word Document. Note: School has started for me now so I will be posting once every two weeks!
