This is a different kind of post because I normally wouldn’t post something like this, but as you know, once or possibly twice a year I’ll post something a bit different, so this week I’m sharing “how to survive the holidays in quarantine.” I personally celebrate Christmas, which is on the 25th, so I have a bit to wait! (These are in no particular order) I hope you enjoy! (Happy Holidays!)
#10: Watch Holiday Movies and Shows
I am not even going to go into how much I’ve been watching holiday movies. This is a great way to pass time though! Two of my favorites are “The Grinch” and “Home Alone.”
#9: Listen to Holiday Music
This is a must, this also helps pass the time while you’re working! Work while listening to holiday; this also keeps you from counting the minutes, which makes the days feel longer.
#8: Put up Decorations!
I highly recommend doing this, and you can find a variety of things, look in your basement for decorations, make DIY decor, or buy some! Please only go outside if you need to, and if you do, try to distance yourself and wear a mask (correctly please, over your nose and mouth). You can also order if you really want to buy some, check out the dollar store, Amazon, and Target for great options! (Not sponsored)
#7: Call Friends and Family!
This is super important, as you are (I hope) probably not seeing people that often, but when you do see them in person, it’s not the same. So to avoid contact, and spending hours pretending you can hear them through their mask, call them! Whether that may be audio call, or video call, or even a message, make sure to stay in contact with them over the internet!
#6: Make Holiday Art or Crafts
Whether it may be online, or in person, you can make some incredible art! You can find craft ideas, or art inspiration online. You can utilize items around your house, or buy things from Amazon, or other websites like Michaels, Joann Fabrics, Five Below, etc. You can also draw on apps, like Ibis Paint X, a mobile app I use all the time!
#5: Get Some Exercise!
You’re probably going to hate me for telling you to get exercise when it’s more entertaining to watch TV, or easier to watch someone workout or watch a workout video but don’t do it. Yes that’s true sometimes, but I always feel good after working out, and I’ve felt so much better physically and mentally! If you’re not into working out alone, video call your friend, and you can suffer together! Being serious though, it’s so much fun to do it with a friend, and there’s really good short and long workouts. You can do yoga, meditation, stretches, HIIT, cardio, weight training, etc! Make sure to have water, eat enough so you have fuel (but after or way before so you don’t feel sick), and take break days so your body can repair itself. I recommend =Blogilates, Pamela Reif, and Caroline Girvan! You can even do it to holiday music!
#4: Make Holiday Food!
What else do I need to say.
#3: Discover a New Hobby
I mean you can do this any time. I just ordered stuff to make a chunky blanket which I am so excited for! I also play violin, and blog, cook, bake, science, learning Spanish and ASL, and more!
#2: Holiday Cards and Gifts!
Send out homemade, or store bought holiday gifts and cards! If you’re looking for DIY ideas, you can find blogs online, or videos!
#1: Self Care!
Treat yourself, you deserve it, especially with such a stressful year! You can do a face mask, exfoliate, lip scrubs, baths or showers with music, bath bombs, skin care, read a book, meditate, spend some alone time, learn something new, treat yourself with food, or any other ideas you have. Self care is not made up of just products you can buy anywhere, and will make you feel good for 10 minutes, make sure you are genuinely caring for yourself, and it’s not too hard. Make sure to fit self care in every day.
